2 of 10: Green tea helps to increase brain power
Caffeine is the key ingredient in green tea which acts actively as a stimulant to keep you awake and think clearly. Though the amount of caffeine in a cup of green tea is lesser than that in a cup of coffee, it stimulates your brain without causing any jitters, which is typical when having large amounts of caffeine.
Green tea also contains an amino acid called L-theanine which enhances the action of another inhibitory neurotransmitter called GABA which reduces anxiety. L-theanine also helps in the increased production of alpha waves in the brain in addition to dopamine.
The synergy of L-theanine and small amounts of caffeine is a potent mixture as far the brain is concerned and produces a “buzz” that is different from coffee. Many persons feel that they can work more with a stable energy level when they drink green tea instead of coffee.
Conclusion: Coffee has more caffeine than green tea, but the synergetic combination of the amino acid called L-theanine and caffeine in green tea can produce better brain activity.
