Stress can also be a contributing factor to any gum disease through increasing the accumulation of plaque. A study conducted by the University of Dusseldorf has shown how stress from exams affects gum bleeding and plaque. The entire students underwent tooth cleaning for four weeks prior to the exams and four weeks subsequent to the exams. They have concluded that there is a high rate of plaque and gingivitis among students after taking the exams as compared to the group of students who didn’t take the exams.
