5. Lowers Risk of Heart Disease
Heart attacks are the major cause of deaths in the US. In Asian countries, where the use of coconut oil is quite extensive, have a lower rate of heart attacks. The lauric acid in coconut oil, when converted to monolaurin or medium-chain triglycerides, raises the level of both the high-density cholesterol or HDL and low-density cholesterol or LDL at the same time. Though the level of LDL is also increased by coconut oil, the increased level of HDL makes the cholesterol profile better and reduces the chances of heart attacks.
