16 Songs to Relieve Your Stress

Stress is defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.

Everyone handles their cortisol levels differently and with their own methods, some undoubtedly better than others. First step is being aware of the stress you are allowing to affect your life. It can be physical stress, such as straining yourself in your new workout plan; mental stress, most likely derived from the workplace; or emotional stress, usually stemming from relationships with others as well as yourself.

It can be so prevalent in one’s life it may seem overwhelming at times, even like it’s out of your control. Which I find to be profoundly silly, because isn’t it? Yes, we as humans are going to encounter stress in our lives, but how we choose to deal with it defines us. Stress is present, but do you let it affect you? Do you allow a feeling, a trivial hormone triggered bodily response change your mood? Handling stress in an ineffective manner changes your interactions with the people around you, your ability to complete necessary tasks, and even your physical health.

The next time you find yourself verbalizing how “stressed out” you are, in any given moment, just stop. Literally cease the action that is causing this, or remove yourself from the situation and take a breather. Remember mom and dad telling you to take a breath and count to 10? Well they had a point, so try it. As a yogi fanatic I can attest to the fact that some deep breathing can calm pretty much any negative feelings. Close your eyes for a moment and think of what you can do to alleviate that strain that you are allowing yourself to be affected by.

If the thought of a musical relaxation cure just crossed your mind, we my friend, are on exactly the same page. Pair the deep breathing with some sound therapy and you’ll be able to better control the way stress affects you.
