8. Ingredient: Arsenic
Found In:
Poultry
Why the US permits it?
The FDA allows the use of arsenic in chicken feeds to stimulate growth, boost up pigmentation and improve the efficiency in feeding the chickens. The arsenic affects the chickens and turkeys’ blood vessels, making the look pinker so therefore fresher.
Health risks:
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, they have classified inorganic arsenic as a form of human carcinogen.
You think the FDA has your back? While it may seem like the government is out to protect us from bad, even fatal, food-borne illnesses, which cause some 3,000 deaths a year, they don’t completely have our best interest—or health—in mind. Be cautious when eating these products.
