Why the US permits it?

Dairy farmers has been injecting cows with a genetically-engineered cow growth hormone to help boost the production of milk by roughly 10%.

Health risks:

Cows injected with these synthetic hormones sometimes becomes infertile, suffers from infected and inflamed udders and becomes lame. And people who consume the byproducts of these cows are not in good shape: The milk that has been supercharged with IGF-1 has been associated to colon, breast and prostate cancers.
